deftones

Well, since I'm not a big fan of GlassJaw, I chose not to attend their set. I got to the show at around 8:45pm, and it was just during the break between Glassjaw and the 'tones. The place was packed, both downstairs and the balcony. And the cops were all around the building.

Anyways, Chino was dressed in a white dress-shirt with a black tie. Chi was dressed in a Motorhead shirt. Can't remember any of the other people. The background on the stage was the dark sky with the stars that occasionally showed the words "deftones" in that new font and the drawing of the white pony.

Songs they played included Change, Bored, 7 Words, Engine No. 9, Mascara, Headup (encore), Root, My Own Summer, Elite, Street Carp, Digital Bath. Don't hold me on those, but that's what I remembered. Frank provided his stuff on the new songs and Mascara, and Chino lent his guitar skills on Change and some of the new songs.

One thing I did wish was that they would've played more of the new stuff. Adrenanline and ATF are awesome, but I've heard them enough times. But only the songs from Adrenanline and ATF can get the crowd going since White Pony isn't exactly moshing material.

Some side notes:

  • Is it me or has Chino gotten fatter?
  • During a break in the show, Chino talked about the Internet to one of the concert goers. He said the "internet geeks are taking over".
  • One of Chino's quips about Vodka. He asked if people had drunk Vodka and Rum, Vodka and some other stuff. And finally he asked if people had drunk Vodka and Vodka, which got the crowd going.
Overall, the show was awesome. Since I've been going to the smaller venu hardcore/emo shows lately, I wasn't used to the giant stages. Even the Deftones back in the old days played in smaller, more intimate clubs. So I do wish that they'd play smaller places, but their fame has probably rendered that impossible.
