July 23, 2000 - Miami, FL @ Bicentennial Park by Jenny - PJ1509@aol.com July 23, 2000 Bicentennial Park presents Zetafest 2000 with special guests Deftones, Veruca Salt, Filter, Local H, STP, and more (those are the main bands). The long hours of wait came well rewarded. After standing in the scoarching sun, I was finally going to see the Deftones again (since they last came to South Florida back in August of '98 for Warped Tour). The band immediatly ripped thru Be Quiet and Drive (far) as the crowd no seemingly less began to loose their minds. Chino was looking strinking handsome (as always) in a short sleeved white dress tie with a silevrish gun metal grey tie, navy blue dress pants, and black dress shoes. Stef, Abe, Frank, and Chi looked as comfortable as they could be in their shorts and t-shirt emsembles. Here is the is the setlist i managed to get my hands on right after the show:
Be Quiet and Drive (Far) The crowd went insane through out the performance. Chino asked the crowd, "Do you want to see STP?" Naturally, the crowd responed in various ways such as "no", "fuck no," and "hell nah," as the Deftones continued to roar thru their set. At one point, the band seemed to get angry with each other (who knows why) that resulted in Chino slamming down his mic, Stef throwing down his Guitar, and Abe throwing his dumstick at them. After the crowd relentlessly continued to cheer for the Deftones to play, they did. Chino jumped into the crowd twice to sing and help out female crowd surfers safely to the ground. He also reminded the guys that, "Women are gentle...do not shove them around carelessly...just help them." Deftones closed their set with a cover of Weezer's "Say it Ain't So". By far, this performance was an incredible experience not be forgotten by all of us in South Florida who were fortunate enough to see them.
