August 8, 2000 - San Francisco, CA @ The Warfield The Warfield in San Francisco has been home to some of the best shows ever witnessed in the bay area, with the annual Sno-Core (with System of a Down, Incubus, Puya, and Mr. Bungle) being held there in January, and Slipknot making their mark there in May. It would be the first time it would host the Deftones (with special guests Glassjaw) and it was definately a moment in time that will not be forgotten by the thousands of people that showed up. The much talked about and hyped up Glassjaw made their apperance first, with a mind-blowing 30 min. set that included songs Pretty Lush, Siberian Kiss, When one eight becomes two zero's, Lovebites and Razorblades, Her middle name was boom, Piano, Babe, and The Motel of White Locusts. Complete with repeted times of the lead singer swinging at himself in the head with his fists, Glassjaw set the stage and warmed up the audience for what was going to be the best 90 min. a band has ever played. The lights turned dim and the crowd roared as Stephan, Frank, Abe, Chi, and then Chino walked to their designated positions on stage, and tore into "Be Quiet and Drive (far away)". The entire venue (including places that are not designed for moshing or anything of that sort) started jumping in unison has the Deftones made sure everyone knew they were going to rock the place all night long. Right before the very ending of the song (where theres the break after the first chorus of the song)... the band switched gears and went into "My Own Summer (shove it)". Throughout this song (and most of the show), Chino would sort of stand inbetween the security guards and the fans... having both hold him up in the air and giving him this somewhat swiging from left to right look. Once down, they went into "Root" and then "Bored". Chino stopped to talk to the crowd for a bit, and then said "and now we enter The White Pony", and they started playing "Feiticiera". Chino then grabbed the guitar and began playing the intro to "Change (in the house of flies)". Frank then showed off WHY he was in the band, and played the weird sound effect for beginning of Korea. To slow things down, "Mascara" was then played, but the mood wouldn't be soft for long as immediatly afterwards (just like the CD), "Around the Fur" was played. "Digital Bath" then got the place ready for what would be the supposed show closer. After "Digital Bath", came a moment in which I thought I would never see.... the Deftones played MX!! It was unbelievable.. and the crowd was singing the parts that originally Abe's wife sings on the record. After words, Chino asked the crowd if some guy had brought over two dates with him to the show. A 14 year old kid with the Red "White Pony" T-Shirt came on stage getting all excitied and whatever. Chino then said "When I was 14, I wrote a song that would later go on Adrenaline. And this goes out to all the people who were down with us since Adrenaline and before", and they blew the Warfield up with "7 words". Right before the part of "Shut up, you don't know me", the went into Weezers "Say it ain't so"! It was such an awesome moment to have everyone in the venue singing along in the chorus. Once finished, he then screamed "Shut up you don't know me" and went back into 7 words. They thanked the crowd.... left.... only to come back, and play the Duran Duran cover of "To have and to hold". "Engine #9", "Lotion" and of course "Headup" were played and the show was over.
