November 17, 1998 - New York City, NY - Roseland Ballroom by Meir - XtC420KoRn@aol.com At first, me and my friend werent really sure where Roseland Ballroom was, and we were all so confused about where we are in the city, but then we saw a large amount of punks and freaks all standing on one line.. so we figured "DEFTONES BABY!" It was very cold and the line was over a street and a half long.. we waited about half hour online til we got in and we heard the terrible sounds of a surprise band called "Molotov" which had a very short appearance that started at about 7:30 and ended at around 8:00... they sang sum Spanish songs or something like that.. anyways.. They were horrible... After that, Pitchshifter came on and gave an okay show... I only knew like one song of theirs but they sounded pretty good... After them came Quicksand which were amazing! If any band wants an underground band to open a concert for them, they must choose Quicksand- they are amazing... they gave about 7 songs or so and they really got the crowed into it.. right before they came on me and my friend decided to blaze a little so we each pulled out our skilled joints and started tokin away... by the end of Quicksand, we were at the peak of our high and it was great timing cause the first chords of My Own Summer came on... and it was GREAT! Chino kind of made the song itself a bit slower but the "shove it!" parts were amazing... the crowd went ballistic and no one was able to keep their balance because of teh shoving and pushing that was goin on.. i myself got kicked in the head by a crowed surfer. after My own Summer, they sang Root which also sounded very good... from what i remember these are the songs the Deftones sang.. I think its in the right order...
-My Own Summer (Shove it!) After Lifter they got of stage and came back 2min after and Steph asks the crowd "Why tha fuck are u still here?!" following that Chino, Chi, and Abe came on stage too and sang Headup, which is actually my favorite song of theirs, I had to wait the whole night for that one, but it was okay cause i heard them live twice before (Warped Tour 96 and 98- which at both they gave very good shows) I was very surprised they didnt perform Lotion, but anyways...
Overall, it was the best concert I have ever been too before, and none gives a
show like Deftones, and no one can get the crowd into like chino who
constantly jumped and sang in the crowd, he jumped of these very tall mini
towers on stage and did a backflip (in headup) into the crowd which was
amazing! If any hasn't seen the Deftones yet, I feel real bad for them,
especially if they miss out on a night like Nov 17. -Meir
