House of Fur Tour '98
Deftones w/ Quicksand and Pitchshifter
Worcestor Palladium
6:30 doors, 7:30 start

This deftones concert was the best one I had ever been to, except for the Warped Tour over the summer when my friend and I got to meet the band and hang out with them all day. But this concert was awesome.

We got to the place at like 1:30 hoping to be first in line. We were, and we waited in line for a good 5 hours. Finally when the doors opened, my friend and I quickly bought deftones jackets (in case they sold out later) and rushed to the front of the floor. We anxiously waited the beginning of the show, as the floor completely filled up around us. By the time the first band was supposed to start, the floor was absolutely packed, there was hardly any room to move at all.

The first band was some un announced spanish band, and they were not very good, Pitchshifter was first, and they were pretty cool. I hadn't heard much of their stuff, and I liked what I heard. Quicksand was next, and they too were alright, but I was there solely to see the deftones.

As the time neared 9:30, the lights dimmed, and Rocko, a DJ from the station sponsering the concert, came out onto the stage. "You all excited" he yelled. "You wanna see the fuckin' DEFTONES??!!?!" the crown already was going crazy, and just then the lights went entirely out, and a spotlight shined up on a huge red banner hanging behind the stage with "deftones" written across in huge silver script. Red purple and blue lights flashed all around the building as guitar feedback could be heard through the speakers. Abe appeared first, followed by Stef, Chi, and finally Chino. Suddenly the lights all turned all full blast, and the band ripped right into "DAMONE" (Yes, they actually played this song, I didn't think they ever played it live, and I had never heard it at any of the many concerts I'd seen them at!!!!!!) The song was absolutely incredible, as was the rest of their set. The songs they played were: (I think I got the order almost right)

  • Damone
  • My Own Summer (Shove It)
  • Root
  • Nosebleed
  • Bored
  • 7 Words -- absolutely incredible
  • Mascara
  • Around the Fur
  • Dai the Flu
  • Engine No. 9
  • MX
  • Birthmark
  • Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) -- also incredible.
And that was my most recent deftones concert...One of the best ever.

Peace

-NICK
