December 2, 1998 - Minneapolis, MN - The Quest by Tim - TimandKisten@compuserve.com This is by far the best band that I've ever seen live. Snapcase and Quicksand were the two opening acts. They were both pretty cool bands to check out. The crowds were pretty tough even before they arrived on stage. All pushing, cramming, hell, I think some chick almost suffocated just for being in the front. The lights went out, some special music came on, and out one, one by one, they came out. Abe, Steph, Chi, and Chino in that order. They started out with " Lotion", which immediately got the crowd going. After performing their fourth song, "Nosebleed", they went a little soft and performed " Mascera." Talk about timing on that song, that was perfect. That helped the crowd simmer down a little bit before going strait into " Around the Fur." They were able to keep everyone's emotions up high throughout thier 70 minute set. My personal favorite song they performed was when Chino anounced that he wanted to dedicate the song to us, the people. The song was " 7 Words." It was that song that got me to go fuckin' nuts on. One thing that they surprised me though was that when the decided not to end with "Engine #9." After they perfromed that, they did a 6 minute set of Be Quiet and Drive." That was another personal favorite. They left the stage early, but they were cool enough to give us an encore by perforning "Headup." I really wish they could've performed longer, but since they had a second show to play, they couldn't. If you haven't seen the Deftones live before, then you have certainly been deprived as a child.
