deftones
December 5, 1998 - Kansas City, KS - Memorial Hall

I heard alot of things about the Deftones but nothing compared to what they were like live. It was my 21 birthay and I had never got a chance to see the band before so a friend got me some tickets and went. We got there late because of car trouble and only got to see a little of Snapcase. Next was Quicksand that did a great job. Many of the people there thought they'd have to sit through an hour of crap but they delivered. By this time Memorial was increadbly hot and everyone there was sweating but no one was leaving. Now I heard that a Deftones concert was like zen but didn't belive it, boy was I dead wrong, it's better. The lights went black, everyone started screaming, and they ripped into lotion. During the night Chino went through every emotion you could think of and got the crowd into it. I've seen some drummer go crazy but Abe went apeshit up their. Steph ripped away on his guitar while pumping up the people on his side of the stage and Chi was pounding the bass lines away. What really made this show stick out was how the band got involved with the croud. I went to Family Values a couple months before and only Fred from LImp Bizkit got in the crowd. The Deftones were encourageing people to sing along and Chino got the pit going crazy in circles. When a guy got on stage and started dancin Chi headbanged with him the Steph joined in. Unlike most security all they did was tap the guy on the shouler and he jumped in the croud. That went on all night and the croud got a kick out of it. They played over an hour and did everything from the new album and almost all of the old. They finally ended with Headup and bid everyone goodnight. When the lights came on everyone was shocked to see sweat was over the people, stage, chairs, and floor. If you don't believe me talk to anyone who went and they'll back me. I got a shirt and jacket to remeber the experience. I wanted to say high to the guys but didn't get a chance. In all it was the best birthday present I have ever had.
