May 19, 1998 - London, UK - Astoria

Aside from ozzfest, this tour is the most anticipated gig on yhe U.K metal calender. Cold started things off but because of the early start time I missed all but their last song. I was a bit pissed of at this because their debut album has recieved much acclaim and I would liked to have seen them live.

Limp Bizkit were next. I had been looking forward to seeing them for a long time now. They were good but they suffered from poor sound because they did not have a sound check. This put Fred in a pissed off mood but this aggression added to the songs. A highlight for me is when they played the opening chords to Blind. this got the crowd really worked up, but just when it was about to kick in they stopped playing. It was funny as fuck

Here is the set list:-

  • Pollution
  • Nobody Loves Me
  • Clunk
  • Stalemate
  • Jump Around
  • Sour
  • Faith
  • Theives
  • Counterfeit
  • Stuck
Now for the moment everyone had been waiting for. Would Soulfly dissapoint. The answer is NO. It was one of the best show's I have been to. It felt special, like I was part of a tribe(pardon the pun)

The crowd waited patiently for the arrival of soulfly. Some very appropriate intro music was played and the backdrop was lit up by a painted god like figure of Max Cavalera. The band arrived on stage to a deafening cheer. Max shouted "SOULFLY" and the band quickly burst into 'Eye For An Eye'

Max was wearing an England football top and Logan was wearing a No Fear jumper. The thing that immediately struck me was the clever use of lighting. I know it's all about the music but the lighting definitely added to the experience. At first I felt Logan looked uncomfortable in his new band but by the time they played Refuse/Resist he seemed far more comfortable, with his jumper off and trademark tatoos on show. The setlist was as follows

  • Eye For An Eye
  • Pit
  • Bleed(featuring Fred Durst)
  • Beneath The Remains
  • Washing Away
  • Tribe
  • Refuse/Resist
  • Territory
  • Bumba
  • Quilombo
  • Prejudice(featuring Benji)
  • Roots
  • Attitude(dedicated to Dana)
  • No
Soulfly were amazing from start to finish. Roots was something special and i'll never forget the crowd shouting
"no motherfuckin hootie and the blowfish"
The night ended with Logan Mader diving into the crowd
All in all it was a kick ass show and one which I will never forget.

I have the soulfly gig on video. If anyone would like to trade please contact me
