July 4, 2000 - Atlanta, GA - Lakewood Amp
by Joe - mysoulfly@yahoo.com
I recently saw Soulfly for the second time in
Atlanta.... The first being at the Tabernacle in which
I was fortunate enough to see Max kick some security
guard in the head for roughing up a crowdsurfer... the
second time was at Ozzfest 2000 at the crappiest place
to have a concert in Atlanta otherwise known as
Lakewood. The temperature was about 100 degrees, but
as usual, Soulfly was full of energy from beginning to
end of their 45 minute set. They played almost all of
their first cd with the exceptions of "Soulfly" and
"Predjudice"... maybe a few others were ommitted, too.
They also played a new song, but I don't remember
which one. They seemed to have a fatter, fuller sound
than before, and Joe Nunez, their new drummer, was
better than Ray Mayorga. The mosh pit was one of the
most brutal I've seen, and the rest of the crowd was
very involved. The only mishaps were some guy in the
pit having to be carried out because he hurt his leg
pretty bad, and the idiot sound people didn't turn the
microphone on on the thing that Max uses at the
beginning of "Tribe". After the show, Marcelo came
out to sign autographs along with Joe. Max and Mikey
were busy doing something or another in the tour bus.
I didn't get Mikey's autograph, but Joe was probably
the nicest person that I've ever met. He was the most
sincere celebrity that I've ever met as well. I
showed him my Soulfly tattoo, and he thought it was
pretty cool. Overall, he and the rest of the band
pretty much reminded me why I consider Soulfly the
greatest band of all time.
