October 19, 2000 - New York, NY - Roseland Ballroom

holy shit man. . .from the time I heard about the show I was so psyched ,
SouLFLy has been my band for a long time and it was my first time
experiencing them live. It was about a thousand times cooler than I ever
could have dreamed of it being.
Slaves on Dope opened up and they were really good. The singer can really
scream, and the guitarist has an AMAZING vertical jump. I cought his pick
at the end of their set.
Primer 55 was completely raw. They were so loud and so ugly that you had
to love it. J-Sin was leaning into the pit which was SO NASTY I got a
bruised wrist and I but my tongue and my friends got hurt alot too. They
brought out some dude to scream with them on "The Big Fuck You" and he
dove deep into the crowd, the energy for Primer was off the hook.
Downset was really really rockin. They played so well and so coordinated,
the bassist was in the air every couple seconds. Everyone was gettin
surfed all over including me. They were really cool, and I smacked the
singer's hand a few times.
Before Soulfly came on everything was RIDICULOUSLY cramped. Worse than
any concert I've ever been to, I could hardly breathe. There was this
tribal music playing. . but it wasnt even music, it was just pure bass
exploding through the soundsystem. All of the soulcrew roadies came out
in camouflage and they set up all the shit, with the huge tapestry of the
primitive bird in back. They took the stage, and the place erupted. Max
said "What's up New York triiiiiibe?? We're going back to the primitive
tonight!!!!"

All in all it was the greatest concert I've ever been to. I was leaning
over the metal barrier for all of Downset and Soulfly, as close to the
stage as possible. During the bridge of Spit, Marcello was pointing
right at me because I was going nuts, I loved the fact that they were
jammin all of my old favorite Sepultura hits, Roots was so damn HEAVY the
cranked it. When they did Pain it was cool, because everyone had a verse
and they were all screaming like animals, everyone on stage was wearing
black ski masks and camouflage and they were tellin the crowd how bad we
were rippin each other up. It was a constant war in the pit all night and
I have never been as physical at any other show. The entire experience
was incredible and it moved me inside and I will never forget it. IF YOU
GET THE OPPORTUNITY , DO ALL YOU CAN TO GET TO A SOULFLY SHOW. . . you
will never look at live music the same way again. peace to the tribe
