Album and Tour News

As recently announced, the PA based group has cemented it's once fluctuating line-up with fan favorites, Dan Weylandt (vocals), Scott Mellinger (gutiars), Russ Cogdell (guitar) and introducing Shawn Koschik (bass) and Steven Peck (drums). Plugging in at famed Trax East studios in New Jersey, the band will record their first album as a unit as well as for new home, Ferret Records (Static Lullaby, The Bronx). Capturing the band's fury on record will be producer Eric Rachel (Every Time I Die, God Forbid) and the untitled release will be unleashed this summer.

Ferret has also tapped the band for headlining honors of its first national all label tour. Joining ZAO will be sonic heavyweights: Misery Signals, Twelve Tribes and Scarlet. The bands will also be featured performers at this year's New England Metal & Hardcore Festival in Worcester, MA on 5/1.

This stems from Mario, who was at the Club Laga, Pittsburgh Show:

Zao Talks About New Singer, Etc.

Here's what Jesse Smith had to say:

"As of Dec. 2000 Dan Weyandt has been released from the band. This is for not other reason than life has been and is taking him other places. As a band Scott, Rob and myself desired to take ZAO to a different level. After many months of discussion and finally a decision we have decided to let Dan go. Dan has been replaced by a friend of the band, Cory Darst. There is absolutely no hard feelings and this is a spirit of love. We just all needed to do what we did. I am positive that to many of you this may be a surprise and a bummer. I apologize. As a band we felt like this is our show and the show is not yet over. We thank everyone for their support and we will see you this summer."

ZAO has also launched an official web site at zao-online.com. (It's nothing compared to this site though :-) ) Elements of the site are still being updated but you can sign up for ZAO's email list to hear the facts about the band. ZAO's new record "(Self-Titled)" will be released 02.27.01.

Get Ready for Hardcore!

InStrife.com is ready to launch! The set date is next Monday, June 19th; one day before perhaps the most important date this year with the new Deftones, Sunny, etc.
InStrife will focus exclusively on hardcore. Wicked Land will no longer serve hardcore news (other than Zao stuff). There will be a lot of running contests in celebration of InStrife (including lotsa t-shirt giveaways) in the coming weeks, so be sure to check it out!
Also, I'm taking applications for album reviewers and commentaries (to write articles) for InStrife. Email me if you're interested.

Recent Happenings

Zao continues their trek up and down the East coast, if you live out there get out to see them..you will not be disappointed. A recent review of the bands show in Chicago at the Fireside Bowl said, "Thankfully, the one constant that does exist in ZAO was fully present-they were massive. This show was evidence that you don't need extravagant lighting or a huge venue to get a huge reaction out of the crowd-good music is usually enough." Don't miss the band at festival appearances like Cornerstone in IL, Hell Fest in NY, Solid State Showcase East in NC and Furnace Fest in AL.

Zao is Online!
Well, after all this work, I've finally finished the new Zao site for Wicked Land. If you haven't heard of Zao, please check them out! Although I realize that their Christian message might turn some people off, but who cares? They sound good, rock hard, and may just be one of the best hardcore bands around. 2nd to Strife of course, but that goes without saying.
